There Used To Be A Country
there used to be a country
a long time ago
which held loads of gold
in its hands
it got bored
by all its value
and thought about a way
to get rid of it
so it sent out letters
to the neighbouring countries
asking them if they were lacking gold
some said yes, some said no and some didn't know
what to say
some said yes, some said no and some didn't say
anything
it's said that our dear little wonderland
gave all the gold away
to the ones who were in need
and to those that just agreed
the story took a turn
and our beloved country
got poor
all at once
and forever
but its people
didn't mind at all
they still had everything
they needed anyhow
there used to be a country
a long time ago
which held loads of gold
in its hands
but no more
but no more
no, not anymore
Pretending
we make love
pretending we care
we look into each others eyes
but all we see isn't there
we laugh day and night
about absurd things we see
days fly by in seconds
it's so easy to think we're free
we're only acting
to live these days like our last
we simply fear
to take off our masks
I put my arms around you
but we don't seem to touch
we'd be happy forever
as long as nonsense made sense
we'd keep on shooting in the black
as if it didn't matter
and it doesn't in fact
what do we share?
what do we share?
what do we have in common anyway?
Fairy Tale
no strings attached
no worries echoing back
no return ticket in my pocket
i don’t intend to go back home
turn your head while i’m turning mine
the roads we’ve walked on we leave behind
we met in a time made for dreams
we turn regrets into pink steam
far away the sticky ground
far away your heavy loads
far away hard times pass by
we’ve found a home on cloud nine
love without storeys and floors
love without bricks and walls
love without ceilings but skies
turn your head while i’m turning mine
the roads we’ve walked on we leave behind
we met in a time made for dreams
no regrets
but to grasp this little fairy tale
read it slowly, read it backwards
before you start you’d better take a deep breath
the happy ending’s first
Numb
i don’t feel too alive
i’m in a numb state of mind
only you can understand
why i messed it up
now i’m walking on thin ice
wondering when it’s gonna break
i’d better turn around and slide back to you
at least to see that it’s too late
you’re still standing at the lakeshore
following my dizzy moves
the sun makes the surface crack
the second chance
left with the past
i would accept a third
and make it last
you’re still standing at the lakeshore
following my dizzy moves
the sun makes the surface crack
take your sense of humour and your smile
your soft hands, your bright shining eyes
neatly wrap them up
and send them my way
as long as the cold remains
Meant To Be
was it meant to be
to spend only this one night with you
you left this city for good
leaving me here with sore lips and your perfume
your cigarette’s still burning between my fingers
the plane took off just minutes ago
thick, fat raindrops trying to kill the glow
and i’m fighting to resist the cold
i may be standing here for days
while you’re leaving your old ways
our precious secret got cut in half
when you were waving goodbye
and if it’s god’s will that i’ll forget
the taste of your skin last night
i’m sure he’ll manage to put
the exact same spell on you as well
it won’t happen before i die
we won’t see each other’s eyes again
but why cry at the sky now
while rich memories still remain
i may be standing here for days
while you’re leaving your old ways
our precious secret got cut in half
when you were waving goodbye
and if it’s god’s will that i’ll forget
the taste of your skin last night
i’m sure he’ll manage to put
the exact same spell on you as well
In My Shell
the walls are built around me
and everyone is here
actors, singers, stars
the party’s host is me
i’ve got bands and pimps
gamblers, whores and shrimps
the biggest moulin rouge
you can ever think of
i own houses, cars and girls
i’ve got all the luxury in the world
all my wishes have come true
isn’t it fun being around me?
it’s happening here
in my shell
it’s happening
dearest friends
if all this turns out to be a bore
give me a minute
and i’ll be back with crime and war
i’ve got murder in all sorts of ways
slaughter, torture, slavery and rape
i beg your pardon?
what about love?
it’s happening here
in my shell
it’s happening
Watching You
you don’t know that i’m watching you
since you’ve shown up
i hope it will stay that way
just for a little while
you don’t seem to know
how stunning you look tonight
i keep on dreaming about you
as long as you’re around
do i need to kidnap you
to let you enter my world?
or will you return my look
or leave me gawping for tonight?
i’m not the type to buy you diamond rings
and i’m not a saint but for you i would pray
i’m not the one to buy you diamond rings
you shine much more than stone anyway
if you could see yourself
protecting all your mysteries
if i were you
i’d do it just the same
if you could see me now
you couldn’t help but laugh at me
a baffled stranger
rooted to the spot
i can feel your burning core
and your weeping heart
i’m the one for you
oh my god, she’s turning around
looking straight at me
tell me what to do now!
what am i going to do now?
what shall i do now?
i’m not the type to buy you diamond rings
and i’m not a saint but for you i would pray
i’m not the one to buy you diamond rings
you shine much more than stone anyway
Yellow Moon
she says goodbye to the yellow moon
she turns around and moves
slowly towards the entrance
of a different space in time
her picture changes colours
red to blue and green to black
her frames will remain golden
only to trick our minds
no one knew her to that day
she left without a sign
where she’s travelling to
stays her secret
a car crash in winter
the snow looks dirty
the roads are covered with ice
they couldn’t get her out alive
the picture changes colours
red to blue and green to black
the frames will remain golden
only to trick our minds
Words are stupid
i didn’t mean it that way
baby, please don’t go away
believe me i want you to stay
i hope you won’t walk away
words are stupid
those phoney bastards
cling to my mouth
they keep intruding
like maggots and worms
words are stupid
i didn’t want to send you away
oh how i wish i could pray
to prevent you from running away
darling, i need you to stay
words are stupid
yes, they are
gluey and gleeful
greedy and mean
stingy and pernisious
words are stupid
who do they think they are?
words are stupid
The House in the Woods
there’s a house in the woods
not many know it exists
i’m glad to know people who do
they say if they choose you
you won’t fail to walk by
your instincts won’t lead you astray
when you enter the lobby
someone pretty and nice
will show you the house and your room
it’s just an ordinary house
with ordinary people
instantly it feels like home
on the front page
of their colourful brochure
a crash-course in happiness
if you’re wealthy and willing
to stay here for a while
they suggest you to take it real slowly
of course i’m too impatient
so I pick crash-course 1
i can’t afford to live here too long
the next day when I start
they start smiling and say
’careful, you might feel a bit sick on the way’
i don’t care just go ahead
and give me that pill
what makes me sick
is in the bag i’ve taken along
but as usual i wake up
scratching my head
i think they’ve put a smile on my face
Guilty
he’s still sitting in the kitchen
unconciously moving his cigarette
to the ashtray and back to his lips
he’s watching the smoke eat up the air
he knows he shouldn’t have driven on
after the car had hit the kid
if he had stopped and walked back
he would’ve faced the fact
the sound of breaking bones
the smashing window
the scared look in her eyes
or was it a boy?
he quickly looked back
and he wanted to stop
he was quite sure he’d killed the kid
but his foot kept pushing down
but his foot kept pushing down
he drove on and on and on
fourty minutes lasting like a day
he made it home, parked the car
closed the door and felt blood on his hands
the sound of breaking bones
the smashing window
the scared look in her eyes
or was it a boy?
The Same Moon
back there are the special ones
over here the weak
behind me i see some heroes
opposite me the freaks
soon i may greet some strange ones
yesterday i met a queen
two days ago i got cursed
by a lad with too much self-esteem
but everyone of us after all
if short or fat or tall
looks at the same moon hanging there
above us all in the air
there are some guys
who are chronically nice
and there are the ones
who always start a fight
some people have become loony
more than a few like going to extremes
a bunch of us seems to struggle
others easily fulfill their dreams
but everyone of us after all
if short or fat or tall
looks at the same moon hanging there
above us all in the air
